SPECKLED SWAN GOURD
aka GOOSE GOURD

Gourds have been used to make bird houses for centuries. Native Americans used to hang them to attract martins to their settlements to help control insects, especially mosquitoes.

The Speckled Swan gourd has a large fat round bottom end, a long thin middle neck, with a knob on the stem end that resembles a 'head'.
They are roughly 15" tall, 12" across and the fresh fruits are variegated green and white.
If you want these for bird houses, grow them in a strong trellis to get a nice straight neck, for hanging.
For other artwork, these grow great on the ground, which will give you the curved swan/goose neck effect. My neighbor uses these as decoys during hunting season. Birds must be really stupid.

Vines will easily exceed 30 feet in length, so plan on providing room to grow.
Remove fruits to one per vine will produce 1 monster.
Leave a few, you will get more fruits, but smaller.
You decide.
Phosphorus and Potassium are important. Add them if you need to. Sulfur too. Leaves love sulfur.
